Carmel Runners Club Member Code of Conduct
We are a growing and vibrant community, and each member plays an important role in shaping the culture of Carmel Runners Club. Our mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle through running and walking, while fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for everyone—whether you’re joining us for a group run, participating in events, or connecting through our broader community.
This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all Carmel Runners Club members. It is intended to ensure that our club remains a welcoming space where all individuals feel respected, valued, and safe. Failure to uphold these standards may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or revocation of membership.
The following principles serve as a guide for how we engage with one another as Carmel Runners Club members, both on and off the course.
As a member of the Carmel Runners Club, I agree to follow this Code of Conduct:
- Always show respect to your fellow club members.
- Always show respect and appreciation for the volunteers who give their time to help the club and/or event(s).
- Never yell, taunt, or threaten physical violence upon another member of the club, a volunteer or event spectator (Members with a criminal history of violence or with a legal restraining order against them by another member may be barred from membership and participation in all club activities).
- Never use abusive or vulgar language, or make racial, ethnic or gender-related slurs or derogatory comments at club events.
- Never make unwanted sexual or physical contact with other members (Members found to be listed on a sex offender registry, convicted of a sex crime, or caught having, creating, or distributing child pornography will be immediately barred from membership and all participation in club activities.).
- Always abide by race rules and engage in fair competition, which includes anti-doping compliance, no course cutting, or other means of gaining a competitive advantage that is considered cheating when participating in club races or other races where you may represent the club by wearing a club-branded singlet, shirt, uniform, etc..
- Always report violations of the Member Code of Conduct policy via email to the Board. Reports must include specific details such as date, time, location, members involved, and the nature of the incident. Outside of emergency situations involving law enforcement, all allegations must be submitted in writing so that the full Board is informed.
- Any disciplinary action, including but not limited to revocation of membership, will be determined by the Board following review of allegations received. Any review will occur within a timely manner.
Reporting Violations
If you witness or experience behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, we encourage you to report it. All reports must be submitted via email to the Board at carmelrunnersclub@gmail.com with complete details. These will be treated seriously and reviewed in a timely manner. In emergency situations that pose an immediate risk, local law enforcement should be contacted.
Infractions Subject to Suspension or Dismissal
Certain actions may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or permanent dismissal from the club. These include physical violence, threats, harassment or discrimination, unwanted sexual contact, or being listed on a sex offender registry. Repeated safety violations, behavior that harms the reputation of the club, or conduct that causes others to feel unsafe may also result in dismissal. Disciplinary action will be determined by the Board and may range from a written warning to permanent revocation of membership, without refund.
By participating in Carmel Runners Club events and activities, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute to a positive, safe, and supportive environment for all.
